The Chestnut Hill Local wrote a follow-up article about the College’s Master Plan.
The 27th Annual Golf Invitational was featured in Ardmore’s Community Trend on October 7, 2009. The golf outing was also mentioned in the Atlantic City Weekly and the Philadelphia Weekly.
The College’s Quidditch on the Hill tournament was recently featured in Philadelphia City Paper.
C. Lowell Parsons, M.D., professor of surgery at the University of California and the guest speaker at the biomedical lecture, was mentioned in The Philadelphia Inquirer’s “Mind Menu” on October 4, 2009.
Pat and Renee Clifton of Cary, North Carolina who won a $1,000 drawing for opening a checking account at Crescent State Bank, plans on donating $500 to the Adele Przybylowski Majka ’43 Endowed Scholarship Fund at the College.
Chestnut Hill College, in partnership with Eastern University, was one of five schools that will split $5 million in Title II grants that will train “highly qualified” teachers in the math and science disciplines.

Event Spotlight

A long standing tradition at Chestnut Hill College, the 33rd annual Carol Night will take place on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rotunda of St. Joseph Hall. This holiday celebration includes student performances by the Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, the Hill Singers, Brass Quintet, Gospel Choir, and The Roasted Chestnuts. The program will include a lively selection of songs of the holiday season in strings, horn, jazz, gospel and doo-wop. The concert also features a visit from Frosty the Snowman and of course, Santa Claus.
The annual Christmas Concert will take place on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 3 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lafayette Hill, Pa. and also on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 3 p.m. in the Chestnut Hill College Auditorium on the College campus. The Christmas concert features the Chestnut Hill College Community Chorus directed by Doris Schmauk, The Doctors’ Chamber Orchestra directed by Fawzi Habboushe, M.D., the Chestnut Hill College String Ensemble under the direction of Joan King, and the CHC Flute Ensemble directed by Barbara Glennon, SSJ. The program includes chorus selection “Agnus Dei” from the Faure Requiem, and selections from “The Messiah.” The Doctors’ Chamber Orchestra will also join the community chorus in selections from “Cavelleria Rusticana,” in addition to other beautiful Christmas carol arrangements. Congratulations to the members of the Chestnut Hill College Quidditch Team for sweeping the Philadelphia Bracket during the Quidditch World Cup Tournament at Middlebury College, Vt. on October 25, 2009. Out of the twenty schools participating, the Griffins beat Villanova University 40-20, Lafayette College 70-30 and Moravian College 190-10 but lost to the University of Pittsburgh in the Elite 8 round of the tournament. The Griffins are to be commended on their speed, agility and positive sportsmanship during the weekend. Go Griffins!
