Chestnut Hill College will show the award-winning documentary “A Walk to Beautiful” on Thursday, April 4, at 4 p.m. in the East Parlor, St. Joseph Hall.
Set in Ethiopia, the film tells the personal stories of rural women who travel to Addis Ababa, the country’s capital, for treatment for obstetric fistula, a life-shattering complication of childbirth. A journey that begins in hopelessness and shame for thousands of women in Ethiopia ends in a productive new life.
A panel discussion will follow the screening, featuring Patrick McCauley, Ph.D., assistant professor of religious studies, Marie Conn, Ph.D.,professor of religious studies, and Vince Gallagher, author of The True Cost of Low Prices: The Violence of Globalization(Orbis Books, 2006).

The Chestnut Hill College Music Department presents “Hairspray” on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13 at 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday April 13-14 at 2 p.m.in the College Auditorium. Chestnut Hill College is located at 9601 Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia.
“Hairspray,” which broadly discusses the social injustices in American society in the 1960s, tells the story of teenager Tracy Turnblad and her dream of dancing on the Corny Collins Show. When Tracy gets a spot on the show and becomes an instant celebrity, she uses her new fame to integrate the show in this charming musical featuring 1960s style dance music and rhythm and blues. Based on the 1988 John Waters film Hairspray, the musical includes music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman and book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan.
Tickets are for $12 for adults, $5 for children, students with I.D. and seniors. For more information, please call 215.753.3707.

The Council for Exceptional Children at Chestnut Hill College (CEC) will sponsor the fourth annual “Lily’s Loop Walk,” benefitting Lily’s Hope Foundation on Saturday, April 13, at 2 p.m. starting at the Summerhouse lawn. The event will be held rain or shine.
The event is held in honor of Lily Driscoll, the niece of Sister Marie Bambrick, coordinator for Teach for America and Philadelphia Teaching Fellows at the College. Lily was born prematurely and has overcome many obstacles to live a healthy, happy life.
The Lily’s Hope Foundation supports babies, children and their families with urgent needs due to premature birth through involvement with the March of Dimes as well as helping families directly. Since Lily’s birth, , Lily’s family has worked closely with the March of Dimes to give back by fundraising to help other babies that share Lily's experiences. Students in CEC are making additional fundraising efforts for Lily’s Hope Foundation by selling raffles for novelty baskets to the College community and hosting a movie night before the walk.
