CHC STEM Council's March Madness

Compete against students and staff alike in this well-known tournament for sports fans and anyone who just enjoys competing! Come fill out a bracket for a $5 minimum donation and be entered to win a great prize. Prizes include a $50 and $25 visa gift card to the lucky participants closest to the actual March Madness Bracket, and a $25 Gift Card to Pizza Hut or Dominoes to the winner of the loser bracket raffle. Institute for Forgiveness and Reconcilation Lecture: "Resurrecting Faith in Rwanda"

 Emmanuel Katongole, a Rwandan/Ugandan Priest and theologian at the Kroc Institute for Peace at Notre Dame University will present the lecture, “Resurrecting Faith in Rwanda” on Tuesday, April 1, at 7 p.m. in the East Parlor, St. Joseph Hall. The lecture is sponsored by the Institute for Forgiveness and Reconciliation.

Survivor to Discuss 20th Anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide

Emmanuel Habimana, a survivor of the Rwandan Genocide, will present the lecture “Healing: Rwanda 20 Years Later” on Wednesday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in Gruber Theatre, located in Logue Library. The lecture is part of a 2014 speaking tour.

The lecture will focus on Rwanda’s achievements in healing after the genocide as the 20-year anniversary approaches, and include clips from Habimana’s documentary, “Komora: to Heal.”

2014 Steinway Master Artist Series

 Internationally acclaimed Steinway artist Matthew Bengston will deliver a guest performance as part of the College’s Steinway Master Artist series on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the East Parlor, St. Joseph Hall.

The Steinway Master Artist Series kicked off in 2012 at Chestnut Hill College with a performance from Steinway performance artist Meral Güneyman, state artist of the Republic of Turkey. The College became an “All-Steinway” school in 2011.

5th Annual Scholarship Gala

The fifth annual Chestnut Hill College Scholarship Gala will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. in the Commonwealth Chateau at SugarLoaf Hill. The Commonwealth Chateau is located at 9230 Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia.

Guests are invited to enjoy cocktails and dinner and will have the opportunity to meet Chestnut Hill College students who are assisted by academic scholarships. Highlights of the evening include a “Tower of Treasures” and a “Support-A-Student” live auction, where guests can bid to provide a Chestnut Hill College student with a variety of scholarship supports, including a semester at College, room and board, or tuition credits.

Soldiers Project Pennsylvania Clinician Training-Bereavement Skills and “Complicated Grief"

 Chestnut Hill College will host a training for The Soldiers Project Pennsylvania on Bereavement Skills and “Complicated” Grief “on Thursday, April 24th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Redmond Room, St. Joseph Hall.

The training will explore the meaning of bereavement and to discuss basic bereavement skills and the multidimensional depths of grief. The discussion will include the “companioning” approach to caregiving and the essential qualities of caregivers.

Maury Devine,  a 1972 graduate of Chestnut Hill College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in French.  She is a graduate of Middlebury College (M.A. French, 1974), the University of Maryland (M.A. Journalism 1981) and Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government (Masters of Public Administration, 1985).
