Institute for Religion and Science Lecture: Wonder and the Need for Alliances of Science & Religion

Thursday, February 27, 2014 7:00 PM

@import url(http://calendar.chc.edu/CuteSoft_Client/CuteEditor/Load.ashx?type=style&file=SyntaxHighlighter.css);  Scott F. Gilbert, PhD, the Howard A. Schneiderman Professor of Biology at Swarthmore College presents the lecture, “Wonder and the Need for Alliances of Science and Religion” on Monday, February 27, 2014 at 7 p.m.
at the Commonwealth Chateau, SugarLoaf Hill campus. This lecture is sponsored by the Institute for Religion and Science at Chestnut Hill College.

The scientific and religious worldviews are both predicated on the experience of wonder. Indeed, in preserving wonder, science and religion actually help maintain each other. Science and religion, then, need to be allies in preserving sources of
natural wonder. As long as science and religion are kept apart, profit-motive will triumph. Interestingly, both science and religion are changing in ways that

can accommodate such alliances.Faye Flam, author of the WHYY/NewsWorks “Lightning Blog,” will provide a response to Gilbert’s lecture

The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Kathleen Duffy, SSJ, Ph.D. at 215.248.7197 or kduffy@chc.edu.
