The History and Political Science Department at Chestnut Hill College will host an interdisciplinary conference on "The Legacy of the Civil War," November 10-12, 2011. Previous "Legacy Conferences" hosted by Chestnut Hill College include the "Kennedy Legacy" (2003), "The Legacy of the Second World War" (2005), and the "Legacy of 1968" (2008). Keynote speakers for the Civil War conference will be Michael Burlingame (University of Illinois) and Elizabeth R. Varon (University of Virginia). Professor Burlingame is the author of Abraham Lincoln: A Life and will present "Lincoln and the Civil War." Professor Varon, author of Disunion! and Southern Lady, Yankee Spy will present "Legacies of Appomattox: Lee's Surrender in History and Memory." Dr. Donald Cresswell of The Philadelphia Print Shop will present on "Printed Portraits of Abraham Lincoln: The Strong Image."
