Cavanaugh Makes the Grade For Philadelphia Inquirer Cross Country Academic All-Area Team

Philadelphia, PA - (December 28, 2009) – Senior Mike Cavanaugh (Quarryville, Pa.) was chosen by sports information offices of the 28 Philadelphia area institutions and the Philadelphia Inquirer as one of eight student-athletes selected to the Academic All-Area Men’s Cross Country Team. Seniors Shawn D’Andrea (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI) of Philadelphia University and Frank Iwanicki (Edgewater Park, NJ/Holy Cross) of Rutgers University – Camden, headlined this year’s list of eight local collegiate runners as the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s Cross Country Co-Performers of the Year. 2009 Cross Country Wrap-Up
Philadelphia, PA – (12/8/2009) – The highlight of the 2009 Cross Country season was the maturation of the women’s team. For first time in program history, the women’s team competed as a qualifying entry to each event the Griffins participated in. The men’s team was led by senior Mike Cavanaugh (Quarryville, Pa.) and sophomore Owen Ward (Elkins Park, Pa.), who paced the Griffins to a seventh place finish (7 of 10, 202 points) at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Meet.
