Mike Cavanaugh, Spanish Major, Class of 2009

"The Spanish Language Department at Chestnut Hill College is an absolute diamond among other disciplines and areas of studies."

What was your biggest takeaway from the Spanish Program at CHC?

"The Spanish Language Department at Chestnut Hill College is an absolute diamond among other disciplines and areas of studies. I had the opportunity to learn from esteemed professors who were born in Spain, Uruguay, Colombia, and The United States. Not only were they masters in their discipline and known internationally for their publications but they were approachable, loving, and encouraging."

How did CHC prepare you for life after college?

"I was able to take my learned language abilities and move to Spain for two years and teach English to both primary school-aged children and secondary school-aged children. Teaching was challenging and fun but the best part was going into a completely different culture and trusting that my professors, my friends in the Language Department, were supporting me. Living in another culture and submitting to a foreign language is life-changing."
