Chestnut Hill College Presents Student-Run Musical “Little Shop of Horrors”
Thursday, February 3 through Saturday, February 6
PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Chestnut Hill College Music Department presents the student-produced musical, “Little Shop of Horrors” on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 8 p.m., Friday, February 5 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, February 6 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the College Auditorium located at 9601 Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia.
“Little Shop of Horrors” tells the tale of Seymour Krelborn, an assistant in a New York City flower shop on Skid Row who dreams of getting away from the city. One night during a total eclipse, Seymour discovers an unusual new plant that resembles a Venus flytrap. Naming it Audrey II, after his co-worker and crush Audrey Fulquard, he discovers the plant has a rather unusual diet. As the plant grows and thrives, Seymour becomes an instant celebrity and wins the love of Audrey, but finds out that keeping Audrey II satisfied may jeopardize his future. This quirky musical tale composed by Alan Menken and written by Howard Ashman is based off the 1960 film starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin.
“Little Shop of Horrors” is one of many student-produced musicals and plays at Chestnut Hill College, previously running productions of “Godspell” and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” “Once Upon This Island” and “Alice in Wonderland.” Students are in charge of every detail of the production from running rehearsals and directing to props and choreography.
Tickets are for $10 for adults, $8 for students with I.D. and seniors. For more information, please call 610.297.1439.
