Unified for UNIFAT to Host Invisible Children Event

Monday, April 4, 2011

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Unified for UNIFAT, a student-run club at Chestnut Hill College will sponsor an informational event for the non-profit, Invisible Children, on Monday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Sorgenti Arena.

Speakers from Invisible Children will discuss their work and will also present an informational film about the organization. Invisible Children is a non-profit organization that seeks to rescue child soldiers who are forced to serve in Joseph Kony’s army in Uganda. Invisible Children hopes to not only remove children soldiers from the army, but to also help them to return to being a child and reintegrate back into their families and tribes.

Unified for UNIFAT is a student-run organization that started in three high schools in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has now grown to 17 schools nationwide. The organization raises money for the primary school UNIFAT in Gulu, northern Uganda, and concentrates on sponsorship, mentorship, new construction for the school, and providing internet services. Chestnut Hill College fundraises specifically for three children in the program, and enjoys the opportunity to mentor and communicate with them. Each year, students from each school participating from Unified for UNIFAT get the opportunity to visit their students in Uganda.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Marie Conn at 215.248.7044 or at mconn@chc.edu.
