The School of Graduate Studies provides academic advising for all students. The advisor helps in planning a course of study compatible with the student's background, experience, and needs. The student is assigned to an advisor upon acceptance into a graduate program. Advisors will be available to meet with students by appointment, as needed. The student is responsible for ascertaining whether all prerequisites are fulfilled and if the course selected is appropriate for their degree program. Ordinarily, if the proper course outline form is on file, the registrar can approve the courses. At times, the graduate registrar may require a student to obtain an advisor's signature before registering for the course.
To register, pre-matriculating students who have not yet been assigned an advisor need to obtain the signature of the chair of the department.
