Music Student Audition process
- Contact Chestnut Hill College Admissions office
- Specify interest in the Music Department programs
- Follow procedures for application to the College
- Upon notification of acceptance to Chestnut Hill College contact Music Department Chair and arrange for an audition.
Audition Dates for Fall 2014 Incoming Students
Those interested in joining us as Music or Music Education majors must audition for the Music faculty. Auditions consist of performing two contrasting pieces on your major instrument, meeting with department faculty and taking a diagnostic theory and aural skills exam.
For your convenience we have set aside the following Audition Days for you: March 24 and April 14. If you are unable to attend either Audition Day, please contact Dr. David Samson, Music Department Chair at 215-248-7164 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Audition Requirements: Major Instrumental and Voice
Perform Major and three forms of minor scales played at least two octaves to your developmental level ( piano majors four octaves)
Perform a technical study or warm-up selection
Instrumental and Voice
Prepare two solo pieces from different style periods.
Provide two copies of the music to be performed
Complete a sight-reading melody
Complete a rhythmic dictation excerpt.
Complete a music theory test (This test is for placement)
The music audition will last approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
You will receive a letter of acceptance or further recommendations from the music department within two weeks of your audition.
